Nagaland Univ teachers suspend agitation

KOHIMA: After two days of picketing the offices of the Vice Chancellor and Registrar, the Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) and Non Teaching Staff Association (NUNTSA) has temporarily suspended the agitation following the submission of a representation to the Governor of Nagaland, Nikhil Kumar, who is also the Chief Rector Nagaland University seeking his intervention to the impasses.

The two sister organizations supported by the Central Executive Council, CEC NUTA in a representation submitted to the Governor at Raj Bhavan, a copy of which was made available to the press apprised him about the present impasse between them and the Vice Chancellor of NU while also seeking his intervention.

In their representation, they said that the NUTA and NUNTSA, Kohima have submitted a representation to the Vice Chancellor, NU asking him not to transfer accounts from one Bank to another when inquiries are on in connection with financial irregularities. In spite of the representation, the Vice Chancellor went ahead issuing directive to transfer the fund. Hence, an ultimatum was issued asking him to immediately revoke the directive and also to transfer the Fixed Deposits to Current Account and utilize the same for the purpose it was sanctioned.

However, they expressed surprise and dismay that the Vice Chancellor instead of complying to their requests, had written a letter with scant respect to the two sister organizations, asking us to withdraw their letters.

Maintaining that the two associations have taken serious view of the letter and thus wrote back to the Vice Chancellor, asking him to withdraw his letter and tender apology for the same, they said the Vice Chancellor has since left station and is out till date `instead of settling the issue he has created`.

In this connection, the two sister organizations in its joint meeting held today decided to request the Governor to direct the Vice Chancellor to come to his office and settle the issue by October 23, 2009.
