AIZAWL: a seminar on ‘Separate Time Zone for North East’ organised by Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) at Vanapa Hall here yesterday has pleaded for a separate time zone for the region.

The seminar was attended by a group of social thinkers, academicians, journalists and eminent personalities.

Assam University was established in the year 1994 under Assam(Central) University Act, 1989. The campus of the university is situated in Dargakona and is spreaded in an area of about 600 acres. There are around 240 faculty members in the university. The university has nine schools under it which offers Social Sciences, Humanities, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Studies and Technology, Information Sciences and Environmental Sciences. There are total 29 departments in all these nine schools.

GUWAHATI: President Pratibha Patil, who is on a two-day visit to Assam, will reach Guwahati on Friday, Apr 16.

According to officials the President is expected to arrive at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi airport at 5 pm.

AIZAWL: The Hmar community, living in the Mizoram-Manipur border areas today asked Mizoram government to initiate peace talks with the Manipur-based underground Hmar People’s Convention-Democrat (HPC-D) for a lasting solution to Hmar insurgency problem.
