Centre suggests CBI probe into the Rs 1000 cr scam

GUWAHATI: Amid a simmering political temperature, the Centre has advised Dispur to go for Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the multi-crore scam in North Cahcar Hills district.

The Centre’s suggestion was confirmed by Union home secretary Gopal Krishna Pillai who shot off a letter to Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi. Precisely, it’s a major embarrassment for Mr Gogoi, who has been downplaying the demand for CBI probe. But the Opposition parties still are demanding immediate dismissal of the Gogoi government.

Assam Higher Secondary School Exams: Nearly 2 lakh to appear

GUWAHATI: Altogether 198,593 candidates will appear for the Higher Secondary examination, 2010, which will commence from Tuesday. The examination will be held at 654 examination centres and venues across Assam.

Oil depots closed down due to economic blockade

IMPHAL: All oil depots in the state were closed down today due to non-availability of petroleum products following the indefinite economic blockade imposed by Senapati District Students Association (SDSA).
