Tripura urges for review of Forest Act

AGARTALA: Tripura urged the Centre to review and reconsider the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers Act 2006 to ensure better facilities for the forest communities of the state.

Referring to the meeting of the Environment and Forest ministers of states in Delhi last week, state’s Forest Minister Jitendra Choudhury said here today that provision for residing in the forest area for seventy five years needed a judicious review.

21st East Zone Junior Athletics Championship: Gold for Manipur

IMPHAL: Manipur athletes won two gold and two silver medals in the 21st East Zone Junior Athletics Championship held at Bhubaneswar from August16-18.

In the under-20 girls’ 10,000 metre walking race, M. Ibeton Devi claimed the gold, while O. Purnima Devi won the gold in the 5,000 metre under-18 event.

ADB approves $100 mn loan for Mizoram

AIZAWL: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will give a $100-million loan to India’s northeastern state of Mizoram for strengthening service delivery in the social sector, officials said here Wednesday.

“Under the Mizoram Public Resource Management Programme (MPRMP), the ADB credit would be utilised for strengthening service delivery in the education and health sectors,” Vanlalruata, additional secretary at the state finance department, told reporters.
