NEW DELHI/AIZAWL: Scores of Mizo and Burmese activists on Thursday held a sit-in protest in Aizawl, capital of India’s northeastern state of Mizoram, calling for the release of detained Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Entire NE to be covered by railway network soon

SHILLONG: The Indian Railways plans to bring the whole of Northeastern region in the country’s railway map within the next few years under Prime Minister’s ‘Vision 2020’ programme. ‘’Under the current mandate ‘Vision 2020’ all the NE states will be brought under railway connectivity,’’ Shiv Kumar, General Manager (Construction), NF Railways, told UNI here today. Work has already progressed under the scheme as Tripura’s capital Agartala was connected to Kumarghat in August 2008.

Government to continue tribal quota in NIT-Agartala

AGARTALA: The central government has decided to continue reservation of seats for tribal and other backward community students in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here after a high court ruling slashed the quota system for the institute, a state minister said Thursday.
