NEW DELHI: Agatha Sangma, the daughter of former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma, will be the youngest minister in the Manmohan Singh cabinet at the age of 28 years.

Murder of tribal girl condemned

IMPHAL: Women Action for Development (WAD) expressed their strongest condemnation over the heinous murder of 25 years old Langailiu Kamei in Gandhi Vihar, Delhi once again bringing up the question of safety and safeguards for the many young people from Manipur based in the metro capital of India, especially the women in a press release of WAD issued by its secretary, Sobita Mangsatabam.

Assam police torture Jorhat pastor

DIMAPUR: The pastor of Rankham Baptist Church of Selenghat in Jorhat district of Assam is reported to have been arrested and tortured on the night of May 8 by personnel of the Assam Police Battalion posted at Rajabari Border Observation Post (BOP). The action of the police is said to be on suspicion that the pastor in cahoots with Naga factions and that he was being used by Nagas to “convert the local populace.”

Nagaland gets serious about HIV/AIDS menace

KOHIMA: If the government of Nagaland has its way, then the HIV/AIDS menace the state is facing currently will soon be a thing of the past. Nagaland is among the highest HIV-prevalent states of India. Given the fast spread of the dreaded virus in the state, the Neiphiu Rio government has taken up steps to combat the menace on a war footing. The state government has formulated a policy in this regard as an impetus in eradicating the virus.
