Manipur’s brave heart brings laurels to home state

IMPHAL: A 10-year-old boy recently brought laurels to Manipur by getting the bravery award for showing presence of mind and bravery to save a drowning child’s life who had fallen into an eight-feet deep pond.

The inspiration gumption of Yumkhaibam Addison Singh, a resident of Manipur’s Bishnupur district, was acknowledged with the prestigious National Bravery award.

Israeli tourists to visit Mizoram

AIZAWL: Leaders of Shavei Israel Organisation, which facilitated migration of more than 1,000 Mizo Jews to Israel, today said the number of tourists from Israel would multiply this year.

They met Mizoram Tourism Minister S Hiato on Saturday night and expressed optimism that tourists from Israel visiting Mizoram would increase this year.

Manipur hosts Tourism festival 2009

IMPHAL: People in militant-prone Manipur had a pleasant change attending the recently held Tourism Festival 2009 here, which highlighted the rich culture of the state while giving a fillip to its tourism sector.

Swine flu alert in North-East

SHILLONG/GUWAHATI/IMPHAL: The Centre has sent and advisory to the northeastern states asking them to review their preparedness in containing the possible outbreak of influenza-like illness.

This comes after the World Health Organization has reported cases of swine influenza in Mexico, Switzerland and Israel. Notably, consumption of pork is very high in the north-eastern states.
