Mizo Poll Official Team Leaves For Tripura Bru Camps

AIZAWL: A team of election officials left for Tripura on Monday to conduct polling at six relief camps where hundreds of Bru refugees had been lodged since 1997.

Mizoram Joint Chief Electoral Officer (JECO) Lalhmingthanga said on Monday that following instructions from the Election Commission, 8,061 Bru voters in the Tripura relief camps would exercise their franchise through postal ballots on November 26 and 27.

Tribal refugees to cast votes through postal ballot in Mizoram

AIZAWL: About 8,000 Reang tribal refugees, sheltered in camps in neighbouring Tripura, would cast their votes in Mizoram assembly elections next week through postal ballots, officials Sunday said.

The election to the 40-seat Mizoram assembly is scheduled Dec 2 and the results are expected Dec 8.

Rahul Gandhi launches campaign for Congress in Mizoram

AIZAWL: Congress party general secretary Rahul Gandhi Friday accused the Mizo National Front (MNF) government of siphoning off central projects funds in Mizoram.

‘The MNF-led Mizoram government misutilised millions of central funds meant for various schemes and projects, including NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act), water supply besides central assistance for controlling rodents,’ Gandhi said.

Hundreds of Mizo Jews Ready To Leave For ‘Promised Land’

AIZAWL: About 200 Indians are set to emigrate to Israel in January after they were officially recognised as Jews, community leaders here said Monday. Rabbinical leaders in Jerusalem said the Israeli government approved the request for emigration by 200 people from the states of Mizoram and Manipur in northeastern India.
