Battle royal on cards in prestigious Aizawl constituencies

AIZAWL: For the octogenarian leader Brig T Sailo, president of the Mizoram People’s Conference and chief ministerial candidate of the United Democratic Alliance, it would be a do-or-die battle for the prestigious Aizawl West 11 constituency in the December two Assembly elections.

Congress and MNF Trade Charges

AIZAWL: Mizoram PCC president Lalthanhawla today accused Mizo National Front president and chief minister Zoramthanga of employing two Zomi terror gangs to intimidate his party’s opponents.

The charge brought a new twist to the slanging match politicians indulge in before elections.

The MNF, while denying the charges, alleged that it was the Congress that had been using rebel gangs like the Hmar People Conference (D) and the Sinlung People’s Liberation Front in “their dirty game of proxy war” against it.

Journalists Protest Killing Of Reporter

IMPHAL: Journalists in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur were on strike to protest the killing of a colleague gunned down this week, union officials said.

No daily newspapers were published Saturday in the state for the third consecutive day, The Calcutta Telegraph reported. Reporters and editors demanded a full investigation into the killing of Konsam Rishikanta and punishment for the culprit.
