Arunachal districts bordering China press for autonomy

GUWAHATI: The Mon Autonomous Region Demand Committee (MARDC) of Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday demanded that the Centre immediately act upon a resolution passed by the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly recommending creation of a Mon Autonomous Council comprising West Kameng and Tawang districts bordering China, under the provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Apex court nod for objective tests in medical exams

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday approved the Central Board of Secondary Education’s proposal to have objective type tests in both the preliminary and final examinations for filling the 15 per cent all India quota for admissions to medical/dental courses in 2009.

Mizoram political parties urged to change in poll date

AIZAWL: Major political parties in Mizoram today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) asking him to change the date of the State Assembly polls as November 29 falls on Sabbath (Saturday), a sacred day for some Christian churches and Mizo Jewish community.

Election 2008 – Mizoram to Hold State Assembly Poll in November

AIZAWL – Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced the date on which Mizoram will go on poll. Mizoram will hold State Assemble Poll on November 29, 2008.

The other 4 States – Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan – election will be held from Nov. 14 to Dec. 4, N. Gopalaswami, the country’s chief election commissioner, said in New Delhi today. Counting will take place for all the state polls on Dec. 8, he said.
