KOLKATA: A 22-year-old HIV-positive Mizo girl — counting her last breaths — tried desperately to reach home to see her parents, but airport red tape strangled her last wish. Mawii died at Kolkata airport on Tuesday after being turned away by Air India officials on Monday.

Women To Play Key Role in Mizoram 29 Assembly Election

AIZAWL: Women are set to play a major role in the Nov 29 assembly elections in Mizoram – the only state in India where women voters outnumber men.

Of the total of 611,124 voters eligible to exercise their franchise in next month’s elections to the 40-seat Mizoram assembly, 308,884 are women and 302,240 men.

Women outnumbered men voters by 3,816 during the last assembly polls in 2003.

Talking about the “Origin of the Chin”, of course, is very much about searching for our identity: Who are we? Where we come from? What makes us Chin a Chin? What are the chief features which distinguish the Chin people as an ethnic nationality from other human collectives or ethnic groups? And which criteria make it possible for us to be recognized as a distinctive people and nationality? Why we are in different countries though we all still living in the same homeland of our forefathers? etc…
