AGARTALA: The World Bank will provide Rs. 5 billion to four north eastern states Mizoram, Nagaland Sikkim and Tripura to create self-employment opportunities for the tribals and poor people living in rural and remote areas. The Bank would provide the assistance for the North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP), starting this financial year (2010-11).

KHUMLWUNG : The newly elected members of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council took oath at Khumlwung on Tuesday.

27 members including three women were administered the official oath by the State’s Law Secretary Swapan Chandra Das in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer Kumar Alok at the headquarters of Autonomous District Council (ADC).

AGARTALA: On the union home ministry’s advice, Mizoram has decided to take back 2,000 tribal refugees from six relief camps in Tripura where they have been living for the past 13 years, officials said Saturday.

‘Before May 15 we will take back 462 tribal refugee families comprising 2,000 men, women and children. The union home ministry has asked the state government to repatriate the refugees from their camps in Tripura,’ a Mizoram government official told reporters in Aizawl.
