Meghalaya to revise BPL list, issue spl cards

SHILLONG: Meghalaya government is in the process of revising its BPL list and issuing special cards to the beneficiaries. “There have been discrepancies in the BPL list with instances of BPL families not finding place in the list.

Meghalaya to explore appointing mediator for HNLC talks

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said the government will explore the possibility of appointing a mediator for talks with the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council that had favoured a political dialogue to end their struggle.

HNLC general secretary Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew had in a e-mailed statement yesterday favoured political dialogue, but rued that there was no initiative from the government. Terming the HNLC gesture as a “positive signal”, Sangma said, “We have always maintained that there is no issue that cannot be solved through a dialogue.”

Academy’s Symposium on Mizo Culture

SHILLONG: Mizo Literature and Language Teachers Academy (MILLTA) today organised a symposium on Mizo culture in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture, government of Mizoram at the I & PR auditorium. President of MILLTA, Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte, addressed the gathering in the noon session. He mentioned the need of preserving the cultural heritage of Mizoram and the role that is to be played in this case by the teachers of Mizo language and literature.

Meghalaya Govt asked to maintain status quo

SHILLONG: The Gauhati High Court today directed the Meghalaya Government to maintain “status quo” on the demolition drive in Polo and adjoining areas.

During its hearing today, the Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice TNK Singh and Justice Hrishikesh Roy passed the order and posted the case on August 5 for further deliberation.
