ADB grants $200 million loan to Assam
GUWHATI: To support Assam’s goals to expand its electricity transmission and distribution capacity, the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Board of Directors on Wednesday approved a multitranche financing facility (MFF) of up to $200 million for the Assam Power Sector Enhancement Investment Program.
The $200 million fund will be used to partially fund Assam’s $764 million power sector investment plan to 2014. The new facility follows an earlier ADB program loan to reform Assam’s state electricity agency, which was unbundled into new companies to improve service delivery and cut the state’s financial burden.
